I never played the original Resident Evil 4 so I have no nostalgia glasses, and I have no idea why this game is regarded as the best RE game in the series. Yes, it's a decent 3rd person shooter, but that's about it. To me this isn't a RE game, and I won't play this series any further. By the second half I was completely checked out.

Level design is very linear, gone are the puzzles (the most you have to do is rotate some switches), the game isn't scary at all, and some of the design decisions are very questionable. RE4 starts out very different from previous games, and it's only a slow downhill from there. Let's talk about some of the issues:

1. It doesn't matter what weapons you use. There are very few instances where using something other than the starter pistol is required. Maxing your starter pistol also breaks the game: every time you run low on ammo, the next crate is guaranteed to give you a new mag.
2. Tying to #1, boss fights are atrocious, partly due to the design of just shooting a weak spot, then running over to stab the vulnerable boss. It doesn't matter what weapon you use.
3. The plot is laughable. I know RE has always been camp, but this plot makes absolutely no sense and I had completely lost interest in it halfway through.
4. The game gives you warnings that past this point you cannot return, but arbitrarily blocks you from returning anyway. This happens twice.
5. Characters are really, really bad, with no personality whatsoever, with one exception: the shopkeeper. I actually grew to like the guy.
6. Enemies have a head-shake animation during which they seem to be invulnerable. The way to shoot an infested villager is shoot them in the head, then wait until the head shake animation finishes, then shoot again, wait, shoot for the third time to kill.
7. A very minor thing: the shooting range challenges seem to be bugged. Many challenges say that I missed several coins, but there aren't that many coins.

There were some highlights I need to mention: visually the game is perfect. Gameplay wise, the lab with the hard-to-kill monsters was a nice throwback to RE1 and 2, and the second time you face them, if you remember to use the biosensor you are generously rewarded for spotting the monsters inside the bags. Same with the wasp monsters. The biosensor in general was a really nice idea.

Overall, the whole game felt like walking down a straigth path while shooting things. I'm trying to wrap my head around why this game is so popular and I think it's because of two things: 1. people mistake addictive gameplay loop of looting things and upgrading weapons with good game design, which it isn't. 2. this game dumbed down the series, and people are dumb.

I can see why people consider this to be the best Resident Evil game, It's right up there with Resident Evil 2 but I would say I enjoyed RE2 more as I enjoy the horror aspect more but did enjoy the hell out of this game. 10/10

It would be unfair to compare the two versions since the remake has the high ground on techonology.

Its a great game, if you try to squeeze everything from it you´ll have many hours to play, also its replaybility its as good as the original.

Story wise, we´ll its a Resident Evil game so don´t expect something great, but it does the job right and Leon is always a fun character to play as. One very good thing about the story its that Luis has a larger role in this version, his interactions with Leon were great, as the Serious and Big-Mouth duo.

Ashley is still kinda annoying, sometimes her AI doesn´t work well and you end up dying because of her.

But overall is worth your purchase, give it a shot.

I tried to give this a fair shake, as RE4 is one of my all time favorite games forever, but the Denuvo just completely ruins it! I was willing to put up with it for a while, but I'm playing on Steam deck and when I got to the cabin fight, the stuttering became unbearable and I couldn't proceed.

Screw you, Capcom. Do better.

Resident Evil 4 Remake… I've spent over 300 hours in this game, and every time I come back to it, it feels like the first time.

I’ve played every Resident Evil title—from the classics to the modern entries—and while each has its charm, this remake is on another level.
The attention to detail, the gameplay that perfectly balances action and horror, the visuals, the AI, the design… everything screams “crafted with love.”

What elevated the experience even more was Ada’s DLC – Separate Ways.
It’s short but packed with content—fast-paced, exciting, and absolutely worth every cent. For just $9, it gives a whole new perspective on the story.
It ties into the main game beautifully, adds depth to the plot, and lets you experience RE4 in a fresh way. Ada’s chapter felt meaningful, well-designed, and just… fun.

And of course, we can’t ignore Wesker’s appearance—brief, but powerful.
His presence alone added a layer of mystery and excitement, and you instantly feel that classic Resident Evil aura of danger and style.
Even without much screen time, he left an impression. Just seeing him again, calm and calculated, made me excited for what’s next.
Wesker oozes charisma and menace in every scene, and his role teases a future that longtime fans like me can’t wait to explore.

RE4 Remake wasn’t just a game for me—it was a journey.

And after 307 hours? I can confidently say:
This is one of the best remakes ever made, and easily one of the strongest entries in the Resident Evil franchise.

10/10 🙌🤍

Resident Evil 4 is an awesome game. One of the greats, remade into a modern masterpiece. It's more of an action-adventure game than RE2, which is a survival horror, where killing everything just removes all the tension, risk, and fear. Running around a completely empty RPD with an infinite ammo MP5 isn't fun. Whereas in RE4, you're encouraged to kill everything. Every enemy will drop money, ammo, resources to craft ammo, healing items, or gemstones to sell. Speaking of which, the Merchant is a brilliant mechanic - anything can be sold to fund new weapons, attachments, treasure maps, and upgrades. You can really customise your playthrough this way. Enemy variation is superb. The sound design on the Novistadors is bloodcurdling, and I really enjoyed fighting the soldiers. Regeneradors are terrifying when they leap at you. The music is top notch as well and pays homage to the original (Krauser's boss theme for example). My favourite is Salazar's boss theme - very orchestral and fits the set piece. All the music fits the atmosphere, from horror (village & castle) to uplifting heroism (Mike's entrance).

The dialogue & story between Leon & Krauser is Shakespearean. You could genuinely adapt Operation Javier and their relationship/encounters in this game into a theatre play. He keeps trying to convince Krauser to turn back; that he's not too far gone. In the end, Leon reluctantly realises that he must do it. He must kill his former comrade and master to save Ashley; to save a lost, frightened girl; to complete the mission. As for Ashley, she undergoes a character arc: from being a petrified victim, to a capable woman who strides ahead, encourages Leon, and conquers her fear. Genevieve Buechner is a leading lady next to Nick Apostolides. Leon's animations are top tier. When he pulls his sidearm out, he checks the chamber. Speaking of which, one of my favourite cutscenes is of Leon sitting down and doing a one-handed press check in Chapter 13. Makes it all the better knowing that Nick did the full performance capture: he acted out every scene in addition to voice acting the character; he even cosplays as Leon at events. The dude has so much respect for the character and the fans, and it's clear as day to see in his performance.

Leon is perfect in RE4. A veteran soldier (he had special forces training and completed several missions before the events of this game). Playing RE2 before this, you can see the difference. He wants to do things by the book, and not really stick his neck out as he believes the system will do its job. He's too inexperienced, and doesn't want to bend the rules to accomplish a goal. He's too trusting, and thinks everything will be okay in the end; that people will be saved and Umbrella will be brought down. Spoiler: Raccoon City gets nuked; Leon gets pressganged into becoming a Special Agent; and whilst Umbrella collapses, hardly any of the victims were compensated/faced personal justice. As a result, he's less trusting, and is the type to shoot first, ask questions later. Subsequently, he doesn't hesitate to spring into action; there's no time to negotiate or play by the rules. Yet he still retains his strong sense of right and wrong.
He struggles with PTSD from Raccoon City and this is his driving motivation. Had Ashley died, Leon would have killed himself. I don't say that to be comedic or glib. It would be a tragic suicide. That is why he will never give up. Because this time, it can be different, it has to.

10/10

This game wa a big change after playing re2 and re7, but if you love the lore and action gameplay with a sprinkle of horror you will have fun with this one. There aren't as many puzzles as the other re games nor does it keep you in the edge with the stalker/horror mechanics since it lacks them, but it is a damn good game and i enjoyed as much as the other ones.

Really good game. Good story, and gameplay. If I had to give a con it would be lack of ammo at times felt punishing. I think resident evil 4 remake is worth the buy. I bought the version that came with all the DLC's. Seperate ways is a nice bonus, however ada's voice is terrible compared to her voice in RE2R.

this remake exceeded all expectations. the original resident evil 4 is an old classic with millions of fans and this game massively improved its gameplay, becoming even better and more fun than the original.
this is how single player games should be made.

The original Resident Evil 4 was my favorite Resident Evil game of all time. Now that this remake exists...it tops the original in so many ways! CAPCOM are the GOATS when it comes to remaking their Resident Evil games.
