Game Information Tabs

Ghostrunner is a hardcore FPP slasher packed with lightning-fast action, set in a grim, cyberpunk megastructure. Climb Dharma Tower, humanity’s last shelter, after a world-ending cataclysm. Make your way up from the bottom to the top, confront the tyrannical Keymaster, and take your revenge.

The streets of this tower city are full of violence. Mara the Keymaster rules with an iron fist and little regard for human life.

As resources diminish, the strong prey on the weak and chaos threatens to consume what little order remains. The decisive last stand is coming. A final attempt to set things right before mankind goes over the edge of extinction.

As the most advanced blade fighter ever created, you’re always outnumbered but never outclassed. Slice your enemies with a monomolecular katana, dodge bullets with your superhuman reflexes, and employ a variety of specialized techniques to
prevail.

One-hit one-kill mechanics make combat fast and intense. Use your superior mobility (and frequent checkpoints!) to engage in a never-ending dance with death fearlessly.

Ghostrunner offers a unique single-player experience: fast-paced, violent combat, and an original setting that blends science fiction with post-apocalyptic themes. It tells the story of a world that has already ended and its inhabitants who fight to survive.

Extremely fluid combat, sick weapon designs, good dialog/voice acting, intense platforming, multiple enemy types introduced throughout the game which keeps it interesting, and a great cyberpunk atmosphere (plus it has a photo mode which is always a nice bonus).

I've only played the story so far but I can see myself playing the other game modes just to experience more of that satisfying combat. I'm glad I got it in a bundle with the second game though I'm hopping straight onto that :) Highly recommended 8/10

critically underrated, game is brutal and lightning quick while being comprehensive with experience. the levels are quite open and its always possible to cheese, and there are many different strategies with which you can go into basically every room. music is okay, its meant to be listened to over a dozen times every level so its pretty generic but each track fits well with it's respective level. the story isnt "background noise," as many would say, but its not the witcher 3 either. its like something out of a 10$ short novel at a barnes and nobles; you help a rogue ai (or a great scientist's mind copied into ai, its left fairly ambiguous) who wants to stop mara, the co-founder of "the tower" from turning everybody into cybernetic abominations and setting them loose on the outside world. "subservience and prosperity, or freedom and chaos?" is the general theme, but it kicks that question away when a side character pops up in the ending cutscene and goes "the day is saved because of what you did! how do we prevent this tower, formerly lead by the two greatest minds in history, from collapsing and the last bastion of humanity being lost to stale air? through the power of democracy!" and then the game ends

the only real issues ive had with this game is that the enemies can be quite janky, especially the jumpers who like to bug out when they attack; dropping in one place, then turning and zooming across a chasm superman style, before spinning a 180 and punching you into a restart. and the ai in general is unpredictable, which can be a massive issue with a precise action game that moves as quick as ghostrunner does, but it rarely culminates, and it keeps pretty tight in general

This game has such a good vibe and reminds me of great shooters like DOOM - in a kind of cyberpunk stiyle.

Great mechanics, it just makes you feel your in control even when you're dying all the time xD

Getting to run around with a sword and kill people is fun but the "puzzles" just make me rage.

It's part parkour and part combat puzzle as you get killed in a single hit from anything.

Had quite some trouble with it as i can't see how close stuff are (no depth perception, practically blind in one eye) so was a bit frustrating at parts but with frequent checkpoints and time from one to the next just a few mins at worst it could be bruteforced, i won't ever be any good at it but decent will do well enough.

Base game didn't have any overly bright parts so no eye pain or nausea on this one, so could play more than just a bit at a time though took breaks now and then when i died too much.

Time for a 100% collectible main game run is likely 10-15h so decent lenght for it's price, didn't like the slow handholdy cyberspace sections but the rest was really quite good so well recommended if you can take frequent do overs with trial and error to progress (especially bosses, can't see anyone doing them in just a few tries without prior experience)

maybe 8/10 or so, wasn't entirely my type of game due to wonky eyes but it's solid and well worth a playthrough.

Update: Hel DLC done as well, final boss i really didn't like :/
Was just trial and error and the laser beam with no depth perception was hell, only when i started looking at the boss itself for movement could i dodge it.

Funny enough, both midbosses was a lot more fun that final boss, Hel and Guard captain with the parry minigame after i got the timing was fun.
Even got flawless on captain when going for sub 3 min fight.

Still 8/10, for me that means 100% completion is worth the time but might not go back for more once done.
For 9+/10 games i do multiple playthroughs and go back now and then (sometimes due to nostalgia, ex childhood games).
Exceptionally fun game. The movement. The pacing. The art style.
Ghostrunner is a challenging, yet fair adrenaline-fueled escapade of violence and speed. Running through the streets, jumping off walls, and cutting through enemies is a lot of fun, and there’s a rush of satisfaction when you finally overcome a challenge. Some parts like its story could be better, but what it offers in terms of gameplay is nothing short of greatness. It may take a bit to settle in, but when everything clicks, you'll feel like a badass in no time. The easiest way to describe Ghostrunner is to call it an illegitimate child of Hotline Miami and Mirror’s Edge.
Review after playing 90 minutes, so please take that into consideration. I also need to let off some steam and am admittedly using this game as a bit of a punching bag, however this negative review is genuine. I'll try to make it constructive.

Ghostrunner: a game set in a large panel factory the size of Aperture Science, where you play as a cyborg Faith Connors with dialogue that isn't even a little bit engaging.

I love games with cool movement. This is a game that looks like it has cool movement. It's passable for the most part, but needs more work. I seem to magnetise to walls even if I am trying to fall straight down instead of to wallrun. Unless you're sliding down a sloped surface, momentum isn't much of a factor, which takes a lot of energy away from my desire to send me and my blade hurtling towards enemies. I'm sure this is done so players don't lose control of the character, but I yearn to travel faster than I'm able to at this point and the abrupt stop after dashing is killing my flow. There are puzzle sections, for some reason, and the type of puzzle keeps changing, for some reason. These are so painfully out of place I was asking myself why I was even bothering to continue. I'm still walking around in a physical play area but now I can't dash or do anything relevant to the main gameplay loop. Why am I doing this? Why is this in the game? I can see the effort that has gone into the level design, but sadly it ends up being quite disappointing; the platforming with combat feels unintuitive sometimes and the platforming without combat is bulky and takes up far too much game time. I presume this is to give the dialogue enough space to actually play out, but frankly the story is not particularly engaging up to this point.

The writing and voice acting leave much to be desired. I understand the robotic nature of the interactions between 74 and The Architect, but I don't think this is a fair reason to have the world-building essentially be an infodump explained at our character. The world desperately wants you to know about it, but has very little tact or subtlety when doing so and has no interest of actually serving the gameplay at all. As someone who tends to align with anti-capitalism, I still wasn't compelled by the story being lazily draped over the same tropes of corporate oppression and egregiously steep class divide. It seems to be more set dressing than anything deemed worth exploring. Additionally, when you first hear Zoe's voice lines, it sounds like someone sat in front of a microphone who was told to "sound desperate" while reading their lines. Despite her apparently sending out calls for help for so long, it sounds like this is her first time doing so. She's not fatigued, dejected, nor demonstrating any amount of personality like you would realistically expect of this character, and she simply doesn't sound like the interesting character she could have been.

At 1.5 hours of gameplay, I realised I just wasn't having as much fun as other games could have provided. It's not that the game is "too hard", but rather that the challenge comes from imprecise controls and level design, as well as uninteresting writing and direction. Only so many situational awareness issues can be blamed on player error before one must ask why the sound design is dragging its feet. A couple times I found myself zoning out and blocking projectiles based on the time interval between shots while wondering why I wasn't just having a nap instead.

Ghostrunner has some good ideas in terms of mechanics and world design, and does deliver to a certain extent, but fails to make them interesting or fun enough for me to persist with the game at the moment. There is so much that could have been done better, and maybe they succeeded in the sequel, but I don't currently plan to find out.

If you really want to play it, get it while on sale. It's 75% off at the time of writing.

It's been a while since I got proper challange on a FPS game. got more than 90 attempts on some levels, nevertheless FUN FUN FUN, plus lots of wall running

WOW! I didn't expect this, I thought it was a sneaking game like Thief or Dishonored! I was so wrong! This game got me addicted and wanting for more as I played it. Very challenging, nice music, lots of actions. I recommend. If you find the game too hard you can make the game slower in the options (normal, slower and even slower).
