This is one of my absolute favorite games of all time. I enjoy the puzzles in the tombs, and have played the game a few times on different consoles. It's still an incredible game worth playing and replaying on PC! I love this game!!

Ah, man, what a mess... It's like it doesn't even belong with the other two games of the trilogy.
The game has a lot of weird decisions, such as:
- un-skippable cutscenes that are not directly related with the plot but instead with 'character development'; I'm not against having characters evolve emotionally as you play, but why did we make the main plot cutscenes skippable but these ones not?
- there's A LOT of resource gathering in this one
- there's A LOT of side quests from random characters that just involve you going from point A to point B
- customization is ok but you spend 80% of the game in an area that makes you wear traditional clothes instead of TB exploration gear, which feels weird, and makes me wonder why they even allow you to change clothes at all
- gear with buffs try to fit the theme of "jungle" and don't fit the aesthethic of Tomb Raider and the perils of exploring stuff
I mentioned on the review for Tomb Raider (first game) that you could tell that that game was done in a different era and the same can be said about this one; there's just too much to do - you speak with tons of npcs that have nothing to add, you walk around a city where the npc lines are always the same ones, the side quests are dull, the customization fits the environment but doesn't fit the character or what they need to do, the map is a confusion of things to pick up, explore, check and try to complete
I wish this was more like the first game and less like the modern AC games

Immersive experience. Just started really playing 2025-04. Can recommend if this type of game sounds something you would enjoy. Especially with good graphics and PC. If you want RT shadows with max settigns and use Nvidia, you will most likely need to revert back to December 2024 drivers (with clean install option during setup), not to crash the game. Also prepare to limit max FPS to 120 or some puzzles get glitched and are unsolvable aka not working at all. (have a bug some sort).

The game is beautiful and runs really well for the most part (I had an issue with no voice during cut scenes. Google shows this as an old issue, and the solution for me was to change the language from something not English, and then change back to English). Gameplay and story - this is my least favorite of the trilogy. It's not a bad game by any means. But I found it to be a bit dull. And the story clunky. Still, easily would recommend to anyone looking to try an action-adventure game!

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition brings Lara Croft’s rebooted trilogy to an epic conclusion with an enhanced version of the 2018 game that looks better than ever and offers a more refined experience. Developed by Eidos-Montreal and Crystal Dynamics, Shadow of the Tomb Raider originally released to positive reviews, but this definitive edition adds a host of improvements, including all DLC content, updated graphics, and further optimization, making it the ultimate way to experience Lara’s final adventure in this trilogy.
The story in Shadow of the Tomb Raider picks up right after the events of Rise of the Tomb Raider, with Lara Croft grappling with the consequences of her actions and trying to prevent the Mayan apocalypse. This time, Lara finds herself deep in the jungles of Central America, uncovering ancient tombs and battling the sinister group known as the Trinitarians, who seek to harness the power of an ancient artifact to reshape the world. The game dives into themes of guilt, responsibility, and redemption, as Lara’s relentless pursuit of adventure leads her to confront both external threats and the personal demons she's been running from.
The narrative is, at times, a bit darker and more introspective than previous entries in the series. Lara’s emotional arc is more pronounced here, as she struggles with the idea of becoming the hero she’s meant to be while grappling with the consequences of her reckless actions. She’s still the resourceful, strong-willed adventurer fans know, but Shadow of the Tomb Raider adds more complexity to her character, making her journey feel like a true coming-of-age story.
Gameplay-wise, Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn’t stray far from the established formula of the rebooted series. It’s still a mixture of exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. The game’s environments are vast and richly detailed, with Lara navigating lush jungles, ancient ruins, and treacherous mountainsides. The tombs and puzzles are more challenging than ever, requiring players to think creatively about how to interact with the environment. These puzzles are some of the best the series has offered, offering a satisfying balance of complexity without being overly frustrating.
Combat in Shadow of the Tomb Raider is tight and satisfying, with Lara having access to a variety of weapons, including bows, pistols, shotguns, and explosives. The game introduces a stronger emphasis on stealth, allowing Lara to hide in foliage, use distractions, and silently take down enemies. Stealth is more rewarding than ever, and it’s encouraged in many situations, giving players the option to approach encounters in different ways. The enemy AI is sharp, and the combat sequences are intense, offering a good mix of action, tactics, and pacing.
The game’s open-world exploration elements are also enhanced in this Definitive Edition, with more side content, including new challenge tombs, crypts, and missions that further flesh out the world Lara is exploring. These optional activities, though not groundbreaking, add depth to the experience and give players the chance to get lost in the jungles and ruins. The world feels alive, with NPCs, wildlife, and environmental hazards providing a sense of immersion and danger.
The Definitive Edition improves the graphics of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, providing sharper textures, enhanced lighting, and better overall performance. The jungle environments are more vibrant, the ruins feel more alive, and Lara’s detailed animations and facial expressions are more immersive than ever. Whether you’re exploring an ancient tomb or making your way through dense foliage, the world feels rich and believable. The lighting effects, especially in tombs and during stealth sequences, are beautifully atmospheric, adding to the tension of the environment.
The Definitive Edition also includes all the downloadable content (DLC) released for the game, giving players access to additional story content, challenge tombs, outfits, and weapons. These additions are a great way to expand the game’s already impressive amount of content, offering players more reasons to keep playing after the main story concludes. While none of the DLC packs are groundbreaking, they provide a fun and rewarding way to extend Lara’s journey.
One of the standout features in Shadow of the Tomb Raider is its emphasis on the survival mechanics. Lara can craft items, hunt for food, and use the environment to her advantage, adding a layer of immersion and challenge. The crafting system is robust but not overwhelming, offering just enough depth to make exploration feel rewarding without bogging down the pace of the game.
However, Shadow of the Tomb Raider isn't without its flaws. Some players might find the combat encounters repetitive after a while, especially when faced with large waves of enemies. While stealth is encouraged, there are still moments where combat can feel a bit formulaic. Additionally, the pacing of the story occasionally drags, especially during the middle chapters, where the plot feels like it’s treading water before picking up in the final act.
Despite these minor flaws, Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition remains a thrilling, visually stunning conclusion to Lara Croft’s rebooted trilogy. The improved graphics, combined with all the DLC and optimizations, make this edition the definitive way to experience the game. The combination of emotional storytelling, immersive environments, and satisfying gameplay makes it one of the best entries in the Tomb Raider series.
Overview
Shadow of the Tomb Raider concludes the survivor trilogy, but I was honestly disappointed by it. The storyline is the weakest of the three, disjointed and inconsistent, making it hard to get into. But why do I still recommend this game even though it has the worst storyline in the trilogy?. Because of its improved gameplay, which I will discuss more in the "Gameplay" section. In my opinion, Mathias was the best antagonist in the trilogy. Konstantin was decent too. However, Dr. Dominguez felt underwhelming in comparison. I was hoping for a more intimidating villain, but it felt like a downgrade. They didn't change Lara's character model this time (which is a good thing), but the skin textures looked less detailed than Rise of the Tomb Raider. On the upside, there's noticeable improvement in hair rendering. Camilla Luddington delivers a decent performance, but the dialogue occasionally feels weak.
Gameplay
This game focuses more on exploration and has less combat compared to the previous one. Though I had fun exploring Peru, as the world-building and environment are gorgeous, and I believe they have been very consistent with it throughout the trilogy. I am impressed on how they have executed the eerie atmosphere, the visuals, the sounds, the jumpscares, it feels straight out of the horror game. Combat mechanics are largely similar to the previous game, and I had fun taking the stealthy route. Lara can camouflage herself with mud, use fear arrows to turn enemies against each other and perform brutal stealth takedowns from trees or underwater. The expanded skill tree offers diverse playstyles, and weapon customisation remains robust. The best part of this game are the tombs, there are a total of 16 challenge tombs (including DLCs) in this game. They are more elaborate and challenging than Rise of the Tomb Raider . The increased difficulty and depth of these puzzles offer a more rewarding experience. Additionally, the atmospheric design and the environmental storytelling contribute to a more immersive and engaging experience.
"Howl of the Monkey Gods" is my personal favourite.

Downsides
While this game excels in atmosphere and exploration, the narrative execution was quite bad (as mentioned in the "Overview" section). Other than that, there's not much to talk about here, except some occasional texture pop-ins and camera glitches.
Conclusion
Personally, the trilogy could have ended in a better way. The tombs were amazing, I would go so far as to say one must play Shadow of the Tomb Raider once, just to experience the tombs. With the new Tomb Raider game being in development for quite a while now, I hope we get some updates soon. Until then - keep exploring!

This game is worse than the previous game. The cutscenes are even longer, they made every side character annoying and they somehow made discovery and exploration uninteresting. Which sucks, cause this is arguably the best setting yet.
Once you find the lost city, you are somehow immediately trusted by one of the factions there and despite looking different than everyone else and everyone commenting on this fact, you somehow are able to stay in disguise around the enemy faction. This shit is so dumb and far away from the lone wolf feeling of the first reboot game and the original games. Also, why does Jonah look completely different and why is he an annoying passive aggressive bitch this time around?
At least the stores make sense in this one.
I'm not done with it yet. I'll finish this damn game and update my review but I'm not gonna be happy doing it, that's for sure.

1. This game = Story driven + Badass Main Character + Action and/or Stealth gameplay + Tombs exploration & its puzzles.
2. This game is very good sequel to previous tomb raider games but I liked the first two games of this series far more = i.e. "Tomb Raider 2013" and "Rise of the Tomb Raider 2015."
3. I liked this game but it has too much side content that you get side-tracked very easily which I didn't like.
4. This game have semi-game breaking bug in this DLC = "the monkey one with huge drums" and the somewhat glitchy DLC = "pillar type one where we have to use lots of fire arrows".
5. This games takes less than (20 hours to finish = if only doing the main story) but with + [all the side missions and challenge tombs it takes less than 45 hours to finish].(on normal difficulty)
6. For me this game was = 8/10.
7. Recommended to buy and play this game.
