From Moon Studios, the award-winning developers of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps comes No Rest for the Wicked, a visceral, precision Action RPG set in a stunning, hand-crafted world. Discover enchanting lands and frightening dungeons as you explore a world filled with enemies and bosses who will challenge you to be strategic and hone your fighting skills. Collect resources, cook meals, upgrade your gear, and build your custom home all while a living, teeming world evolves around you.

The year is 841. King Harol is dead. Even worse, the Pestilence, an unholy plague not seen for a thousand years, has returned. It sweeps across the land, corrupting everything it touches. Madrigal Seline, a ruthlessly ambitious figure in the church, sees the Pestilence as a chance to prove herself in the eyes of her god. These forces converge on the backwater Isola Sacra, where rebel groups and the provincial government fight for control amid the isle’s crumbling ruins.

You are a Cerim – a member of a group of mystical holy warriors imbued with remarkable powers and sworn to defeat the Pestilence at any cost. But the task will prove increasingly challenging as you become entangled in the people’s plight and the vast political struggle of this downtrodden land. Chaos will pull you in every direction as you seek to cleanse the land of the plague and shape the kingdom’s fate.

Hone combat skills with a system that challenges you to be deliberate and strategic. Battle against gruesome creatures, enemy soldiers, and punishing bosses in tense, visceral combat. Feel the weight and speed of each weapon through their own move sets. Enchant armaments with runes, craft rare armor, and create bespoke character builds that fit your playstyle. Prepare for an intense combat experience where every enemy encounter can feel like an epic duel.

Game Reviews

So about the recent negative reviews . . .

In the last major update "into the breach" they made significant changes to the game. They improved performance, they added content, and rebalanced most everything. The vast majority of these reviews are saying the game suffers from an increased difficulty. They are right - it is more difficult than before, but the update just came out and the devs haven't had a chance to incorporate player feedback. This game does so much right, I think the reviews give an unfair representation of how good of a game it is. It's an early access game it will have changes through development, but this game is a gem in the making.

Take the negative reviews with a pinch of salt, almost all of them revolve around difficulty in one way or another. Its not perfect, it is a little rough around the edges but definitely not worth a negative review because of those things. If you are looking for an immersive Souls-Like game with beautiful art/music and fun vertical level designs and want to support smaller independent studios then just buy it.

game was really great before the latest patch, I've poured a fair amount of time into it in my opinion, but this latest patch dropped an old change they had for bows, and really neutered the way it plays now.
bows were basically dead on arrival and they made a work around to fix it but now they've changed it back and just absolutely not worth picking up anymore.

combat feels so much slower and unforgiving compared to before as well. before you were able to enjoy the combos they created for each individual weapon, but now literally every enemy interrupt any and all combos because they recover from all of your attacks faster than you can get off the 2nd part of said combo. the combat has devolved into hitting once and then defending before trying to attack again. unless you've managed to parry them and have enough energy to get an attack or 2 off again. BUT there's a catch, this only works if you're in a 1v1. if you're unfortunate to be in any fight higher than 1 npc, you're basically outmatched because you cant cancel any of your attack animations once you've started to attack, meaning if you're about to capitalize on a recently parried enemy. you're about to get punished for thinking you're free to attack while an enemy in the distance lobs a fire bomb or a crossbow bolt interrupting the attack animation you attempt to use on enemy number 1.

Just tried the breach patch. The devs are trying to make a souls like with the camera pulled way back. Fine aspiration, but this game is dead set on wasting your time and making you replay content. Waiting for town upgrades. Only able to teleport between the main city and the last portal you visited. Grinding wood, ore, food... etc. I swear I've chopped more trees than enemies in this game.

More importantly, the combat is not well designed. Attacks in a souls game need to have a certain level of fairness and these fall short often enough to be annoying. Some enemies can combo so long you literally run out of stamina and start eating hits. Parry window is so short you might as well not even try for anything faster than the most telegraphed attack an enemy has. Block chip damage is insane on light shields (which is the only shield I have found in 8 hours) 2 handed sword is so slow the only play style is bait and punish, anything else is a trade you lose. Want to smash your head into a boss wall until you win like good old souls games? Every time you die your gear takes a durability hit. Repairing does not happen at bonfires, you have to pay with the same money you use for everything else. Okay, you'll just use heals right? There is no estus flask, the healing items you have need to be hand picked and crafted by you and are actually quite limited. Basically, if a boss destroying you it is very possible to end up with no money, broken gear, and no way to heal, forcing you to get a part time job farming resources.

If you have a lot of time, enjoy hitting trees, and hate yourself, I recommend this.

A unique souls like games with a crazy cool esthetic. Many of the early problems/QOL issues have been addressed and the game is really starting to git gud

I simply have fallen in love with this game. The design of the environment is top notch and exploring the couple areas currently available in the early access has given the game so much replay-ability. I have spent 150 hours in the game and I am still finding small secrets in the environment. The different regions are so interconnected on the most creative ways. The current early access love build is only a fraction of the size that this game will grow into. It couldn’t be more worth the price tag. I HIGHLY recommend anyone to give this game a try if they are at all curious and intrigued by the visuals and this games ambitions. 10/10

It breaks my heart to see that No Rest for the Wicked didn't receive overwhelmingly positive reviews. I'm absolutely in love with it. A decent souls-like should have highly engaging gameplay, and this one definitely delivers just that. The setting and characters are well-designed, and I must say, I have never seen anything like that in this genre. Sure, there are a few annoying features—like inventory management and the tire-III weapons and gears' negative traits—but it's definitely not unmanageable. I'm sure that Moon Studios will work things out before the final release, and it'll be a delight to play the final version.

This game is so good and it's still EA but it could be so much better. My recommendation doesn't come without caveats so tl;dr the game is great and is worth playing.

My personal gripes. Some are just my opinion but others seriously need to be changed for the sake of the games benefit.

- KB&M controls does not have an option to direct attacks to mouse cursor. Targeting in multi mob fights is frustrating more then difficult
- Fast travel points not connected to each other but only to the last one you touch negates the point of it entirely. It causes more backtracking then needed. I want to go through the zones because I want to not because I'm forced to
- Not respawning at your nearest whisper (fast travel point) on death but on the last one you touched is criminal
- Parrying is the coolest thing you can do but this game hates you for trying it. You're not aptly rewarded for parrying enough to justify it leading to path of least resistance
- Giving every other enemy at the start firebombs that have INSANE tracking is a hell of an onboarding choice but there's only one other mob later on that uses an aoe projectile and it's a slow moving fireball.
- Food being tied to healing is a choice. While I can understand the rpg element to it the friction in other parts of the game can't be denied. It takes early inventory space, it stops players engaging in the actual content to have to restock supplies and food becomes redundant as health gain is more accessible later on. This needs another look into because the idea is sound but the reality is not fluid
- Repair cost, in the same vain as food, causes friction. The idea is sound but when learning/fighting a boss having to go back and repair your gear takes you out of the combat. I can't even imagine if someone goes broke and then is forced to go out and farm money with no gear (probably in a new realm) just so they can repair and try the boss again.

Overall the game is actually just so good. I'm happy Moon is now independent and I hope they can use that to their full ability to make the game everything it has the potential to be. I know the Breach update is happening and I will edit this if the changes are made but honestly I'm rooting for all of you.
