A decent game that has questionable ways of telling it's actually good story. The story does use a lot of cliche Hollywood ways of telling stories but at the end of it, I did feel like it was satisfying, even if I did have some questions on things.
It takes way to long to get to the story. It is another modern game that adds time to the game by adding way too many side quests that end up being pointless and to just help your stats and equipment. I bring this up because there were two sidequests I did that I thought could impact the end but me saving someone or me doing favors for a certain race ended up not mattering at all when you are in the Ragnarok part of the game. Doing side quests is nice for a little bit but there is too many time wasters here.
If you have no other game to play, I can see why people would like this. But if you are like me and have a backlog of games to get through, you just end up feeling games like these, are just wasting your time. Oh and making the Valhalla expansion a roguelite is just more adding bloat to gameplay to make it last longer than it needs to. I personally hate roguelites and don't think randomness combined with retrying over and over again are good game mechanics but I will agree with people, the story in the Valhalla expansion is very interesting. I am just going to watch the cutscenes on Youtube rather than go through random gameplay and retrying over again to get to the story bits.
Finale of the Norse saga
God of War Ragnarök is the continuation of God of War (2018), serving as the finale to the Norse era. The game builds on what was successful in the prequel and expands on it modestly to give the sequel a fresh feel. It is a high quality product that we've come to expect from Santa Monica and PlayStation. PC port is also the ideal way to play.
Story
We have yet another thrilling and compelling God of War story here. It picks up directly after the events of the previous game and follows the Nine Realms' journey towards Ragnarök. While it has some pacing issues compared to its predecessor, it is still a great story and a satisfying conclusion to this era of the series. If you enjoyed Part I, you'll definitely enjoy Part II as well. Kratos' son is a bigger focus here and there are story segments where we play as him.
Gameplay
Gameplay in Ragnarök is almost identical to GOW (2018). It uses the same combo-based system and relies heavily on timing and runic attacks. There is a lot of depth to it and also challenge. The game is not easy, even on Normal difficulty. To beat it you will need to get a feel for the combat and can't rely on standard button mashing. During my playthrough I felt the game was unfair in some scenarios, especially when there are multiple enemies, I believe it wasn't as unfair in the prequel. You will get hit from behind a lot and in some situations you can't avoid that. It is still a fun challenge though and I refused to drop the difficulty even during the hardest fights. The main complaint I have with Ragnarök would be the changes it introduces, or rather, lack there of. At the end of the day it really is the same as the previous one, just bigger. Yes, you have a new weapon to use (which is pretty awesome), yes, you have a bit of a redesign when it comes to shields but that still doesn't make gameplay too varied. The majority of side content is the same as GOW (2018). Artifact collecting, lore, buried treasure and chests are all here. It just feels like a very safe sequel and that's fine, this is still a high quality singleplayer game, as AAA as it gets.
RPG elements
This was the biggest feature of God of War (2018). The ability to customize Kratos' armor and weapons to build different playstyles is one of the most fun things you can do. I personally believe Ragnarök does better in this aspect, I experimented with a few different builds and they all felt unique. In the previous game there was basically one armor you would want and that was it.
PC Port
Solid work was done by Jetpack Interactive when developing the Windows version of Ragnarök. It performs well and looks stunning. You can adjust virtually every setting to your liking and apart from minor graphical glitches, it is a perfect port. Pair that with full controller support and this is easily the best way to play.
GET IT BOY!
God of War Ragnarök is a fantastic singleplayer experience that is worth every penny. If you like AAA games with no microtransactions, no online account requirements (PSN link is no longer mandatory) and no BS then this is one of the very best PlayStation has to offer. BUY IT BOY!

Listen. This game is absolutely beautiful. Not only do I own it on here, oh no, I also own it on my playstation, that is how much I love this game series. The story sucks you in, it makes you emotional and cry, it makes you laugh in joy, it makes you yell and want to throw stuff in anger/frustration because of what is going on.
The graphics are absolutely gorgeous. The game play is smooth like no other. This game gives you so much to do to help you get stronger as you progress through the story. And everything ties together in one way or another.
So do I recommend this game? You bet.

good single player games without endless dlc and microtransactions can be made
game is a little "on rails" at times and kind of treats you like an idiot for even some of the most basic puzzles but the story is terrific and on the hardest difficultly — it's actually hard, a rarity these days

I hate that I don't love this game. I've been loving the series since the first God of War game, and the previous one was an absolute masterpiece. This one? Huge meh.
The writing and digital performances are, of course, absolutely insane still. Really top tier stuff. But the overall story just doesn't come together. Instead of being driven by the core of Kratos and Atreus' relationship in the first game, this one is more of a wild goose chase vaguely building towards a final confrontation with Odin.
The level design, however, is what's making me stop this game. The core of God of War has always been the combat, but here it feels more like an afterthought. You explore areas and have to solve puzzle after mind-numbing puzzles, and some weak enemies show up in the middle. There's no real satisfaction to the fights anymore, and instead you find yourself wandering areas looking for that one glyph that will signal THIS wall is climbable, so you can reach a vantage point where you can flip a switch by throwing your axe at it, and... you get the picture.
I barely made it through the first open area and I'm already bored out of my skull. So yeah, no. I'm done.

Santa Monica Studio did it again, what a fantastic game this was, loved it so much, such an epic journey to finish the story of Kratos and Atreus.
I think i enjoyed this even more than the previous game, i enjoyed every second of it, the story for me was even better than previous god of war. Gameplay wise, both games are pretty much the same, though i enjoyed playing as Atreus so much and seeing his story without Kratos.
I can’t recommend this game enough, the best story telling i have ever experienced and easily one of the best games i have ever played, superb game, a masterpiece.

Was going to spend this time typing out a lengthy review, going over the pros and khans of sinking valuable hours into this game. But instead, I will just leave it with a thumbs up, and instead use this time to give my dad a call.
You should all be calling your fathers right now. You know it's been too long since you've had a good talk.

After conquering God of War Ragnarök on the hardest difficulty and earning the platinum, I can confidently say it's a masterclass in storytelling, combat, and emotional depth. Every challenge felt earned, every victory satisfying. An unforgettable journey worthy of the gods.

The story in this game is a masterpiece and one of the best of all the games I have ever played in my life. I also literally started crying during several moments late into the story because I was really immersed and felt connected with the different characters.
100/100 if I have ever seen one.

The only game I've ever 100% for a reason. One of my favorite games of all time. Valhalla was a great addition.
