I give Mortal Kombat 1 a 7/10. The graphics are great, and the character lineup is one of my favourites in the MK series. The gameplay is decent, but there are some issues. My biggest issues with MK1 are the microtransactions, the lack of singleplayer content, the customisation system, and Kameos. The base game costs $70 CAD, but if you want to play as all of the (currently available) characters, you need to pay over $120! The Khaos Reigns bundle includes every DLC fighter except for Shang Tsung for some reason, who you have to buy for an additional $10. I don't blame the developers for this, I blame WB Games. The singleplayer content is also pretty underwhelming. After story mode, the only thing you can play by yourself is Invasions, or the towers of time. There's no Krypt, which was one of my favourite parts of MK11. The character customisation options are pitiful compared to MK11, which I think had the best customisation system in the series. The colour variations between skins are pointless, and you get one gear piece. You also can't make custom presets. I think that the Kameo system adds too much complexity to the gameplay, and should not be included in the next MK game. Many players like the Kameos, but I think they make the game harder for beginners to get into. Long story short, I would only buy this game when it's 50% off (or more).

balanced game, i get matched against level 150 players when i myself am level 30 and get near r*ped by these players without being able to counter attack

MK1 is a beautiful game in terms of graphics and character design, but it is clear what direction they aim to take with future installments to the franchise from now on, and I am not sure I like it. The amount of additional transactions one has to make to simply have access to additional characters, cosmetics (which aren't an essential thing i guess) AND to even complete consequent parts of the story was truly not a wise decision to implement into this game. Some of the few pros of the game is that its achievements are far far easier to obtain than previous games (if you even care about that), and Invasions as an "endgame" mode was an interesting and entertaining addition to the franchise. Other than that, the game just feels like a cash grab from every single aspect.

Overall thoughts... I would suggest to just get the game on sale or something. As beautiful as the game is, I do not think it's really worth the price it has, especially if you take in consideration the additional amounts of money you'd have to pay in order to have access to more characters, kameos and even the next story section. Additionally, Khaos Reigns was AWFUL as a DLC: from someone that's been a MK fan for a long time now, completing its story section was truly the biggest waste of time, and those are 6 hours of my life I wish I could take back. If you want to have some fun while playing it (because trust me, you will be bored to death with it), do a drinking game for every time the word "chaos" is mentioned. By the time the story ends, you won't remember any of it, and trust me, that is for the best.

The gameplay / fighting mechanics feel as good as ever, but it's also one of the most bare-bones feeling MK games in memory too. It's much of the same on the arcade, multiplayer and story side, which is not a bad thing - But if you are diving in for oodles of additional content / Krypt stuff, you may be left disappointed.

I've completed the story. Did I follow any of it? Nah.
I like this game I really do but they should take the characters and what makes this game good and take the stuff that makes MK11 good and its characters and smush them all together in one single Mortal Kombat game and just update that

Klassic Mortal Kombat experience with beautiful graphics and other interesting features.
I completed the Story mode on Easy with looking up some special moves, but most of the time I was just mashing all the buttons randomly.
Sometimes I experienced a little stuttering, but nothing major (no crashes), so I can recommend this game without hesitation.

I just dont like the new Kameo thing, and also the dlc that costs almost as much as the game, cmon.
