Do yourself a favour. Get OpenMW, integrate it with Steam via configuring the launch options (there are guides on Steam on how to do this), find a handful of QoL mods on the Nexus, and enjoy one of the best games ever made. Vvardenfell is seriously beautiful and the landscape of Morrowind is so out of this world and impressive to this day. One of the best RPGs of all-time and worth every minute of time.

Morrowind is undoubtedly an amazing classic game. The world is massive, there is a ton of content to get through, and you can really do what you want. However, if you are looking to experience Morrowind for the first time, it may be a bit challenging to get into given the lack of QOL.
I would love to see Morrowind remastered next.

Please remaster this game Todd!!! This was my favorite game as a kid and I would buy this 100 times like you wanted us to do with Skyrim! Give the people what they want. Morrowind remastered.

It's... prety much amazing in so many aspects. The roleplaying is immersive as can be, and for the time this must've been.... outstanding.
But to put it bluntly; its not fun in the beginning, and I'm not motivated enough to get past the early game. The combat is downright awful, and the great lack of fast travel QoL features makes exploring the country a big blegh. The lack of a main story line is also a bummer, and I hate to say it but I just... couldn't get into it.
Gave it a shot, but despite its incredible heights in terms of dialogue and writing, it's just.... not up to today's standard.

I am sure that Todd hates this game, because it is the best out of all installments, and he had the least to do with it.
Go play some Morrowind, Nerevarine.

My playtime is low because i use OpenMW. i just wanna say i didn't grow up with Morrowind. My first Elder Scrolls game was Oblivion, so nostalgia isn't a factor. Morrowind is my favorite Elder Scrolls game now. Morrowind feels like a truly alien place. Oblivion and Skyrim just feel generic in comparison. Not saying they're bad games, but Morrowind doesn't fall into generic fantasy territory.

This game is amazing and if you want what some of the toxic community refers to as "the real Elder Scrolls," then you need to play this game. Just don't delve too deep into any online forums, because again, Bethesda games have some of the most toxic communities, and that's from a die-hard Bethesda fan.
Do yourself a favor, and look up the Tek Syndicate video on modding this game. You only need to install 1 mod, and it's called OpenMW. It's essentially a newer engine for the game, fixes some bugs, and lets it play a lot better, even on older hardware. With it installed this game becomes even more amazing, and plays like an RPG from the past few years. If you wanna learn how to exploit the hell out of this game, look up 'JustBackgroundNoise' and 'CoffeeNutGaming' on YouTube.
I checked the box that said I received this for free since I got it in the anthology collection, but I've played this game since it came out with my brother on PC, and eventually I played it again on my Xbox360.

Proof Bethesda can make an open world RPG with great writing and story telling. There are plenty of mods to make the game more comfortable for the modern gamer.

As someone who is younger than Morrowind I come from a point of no bias.
Morrowind surprised me humbly thanks to it's combat and atmosphere, playing it with openmw nowadays feels like a modern day indie title that just got released.
While the game can be hard to get into, especially if you have no experience with it, after the learning curve, playing morrowind becomes a very enjoyable experience that you can mod a ton of.
Modding scene of this game is absolutely amazing, arguably the best in any Bethesda game, bringing mods like Tamriel Rebuilt that add various parts of ESO map into Morrowind.
Morrowind is a cult classic, that is a must play for any RPG, Elder scrolls fan or any fantasy fan in general
